Let's take a look:   Notice the hairs covering the body of this insect, a dead give away that it is in fact a Southern Yellow Jacket.  These are the stinging insects to pay attention to. They have very strong mandibles that allow them to chew through wood to build their nests. We have seen these nests in walls, attics and trees. They will, however build under ground. Their nests can be massive with some reports in Florida of nests exceeding six feet in length. The nests contain dozens, sometime hundreds of queens- all laying eggs, building their population. These insects are highly aggressive, and when provoked will sting relentlessly. Do not attempt to handle these Yellow Jackets by yourself.
